In my last post, I wrote about experiencing burnout. The Lord spoke to me about re-prioritizing and rest. (If you still need to check out the previous post, click here.) As promised, I will dig deeper into how I’ve refocused my priorities and some resources that have helped me. Now, your list may look slightly different than mine, depending on where you’re at in your journey.
But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.
Matthew 6:33 AMP
If you haven’t already guessed, I had to first re-prioritize my relationship with God. The better word is to prioritize my relationship with God. I was constantly putting God on the back burner in my life. Not praying, not reading my bible or other study tools to help me read my bible, nothing. I was attending church and hearing good stuff but wasn’t acting on it. I finally got fed up and thought, church, God, all of this is just a waste of time if I’m not going to take Him at His Word and trust. In Matthew 6, Jesus was dropping tons of nuggets. (Read the whole chapter here.) At the end of the chapter, He tells us to not worry about different things. He ends by saying to seek His kingdom, His way, His attitude, His character, and all of the things you’re worried about will be given to you. This meant I needed to prioritize God and His ways because He loves me so much that all the things that are stressing me He would handle.
One of my favorite excuses is “I don’t have time to …” and spending time with the Lord was no different. I told God I sincerely wanted to show up for our relationship and to show me where I could begin to spend time with Him. Within days, I began to see little pockets of time where I could pray and felt a strong pull to do so. I realized I was reaching for my phone and checking social media first thing in the morning. Instead, I replaced it by opening the bible app to read the verse of the day and think about what that means. With little ones sitting down to read regularly, it doesn’t always work out. The bible app has excellent features like bible plans with short devotionals on tons of topics. These small but impactful steps put me on the right path to prioritize my relationship with God. When I get off track or am less consistent than I like, I always default to asking the Lord to show me where I can have time with Him, and He always answers.
In the next post, I’ll discuss the next area that needed some prioritizing, myself and my husband, and where everything else falls in my life.
If life is coming at you fast, and you don’t know which way is up, I challenge you to take God at His word and shift your focus from your circumstances to focusing on God and watch how He shows up in your life.
Live convinced!
